Behind my house, there is another house that has been abandonned for a few years now... In the garden, I saw a small cat, probably 3-4 month old that apparently live in there. I went in and tried to catch him, but no success. The garden is quite big and abandoned. It’s very hard to see where he could be hidding because the garden is abandoned and look a bit like a small jungle...

Right now, I built some kind of a trap with cat food in it (a big box with food inside... Easy to get in but it will probably be impossible to get out of for him...)

Cat has probably been abandoned a while ago, so trying to rescue him. If you guys have any tip...

He looks a bit like this, but grey

Offer food and keep a good distance away. Keep offering food for a while and get closer and closer until it trusts you. Then grab.

I really can’t even get close at all... I saw him twice only. Other problem is that he is not the only cat around here, a couple of other cats live in the area. House cats allowed to go out... Mine included. Leaving food will equal to having the food stolen by one of these cat...

That and the garden is very hard to access in itself....

Your method should work- place cat food in a cage trap and hope you catch it. We used this method with a stray, and though it took a few tries, we eventually caught him.

You will never catch a feral cat without a trap. Not fast anyway. Even if you were able to feed it, gradually getting closer and closer, the first time you try to pick it up, I can pretty much guarantee it will claw and bite the crap out of you. I’ve seen my mom try to take in every stray and feral cat she ever saw. She could get to the point of being able to pet a few (with months/years of patience). She even managed to get a couple to come inside at night. She has never been able to pick one up though, and believe me she’s tried (she payed the price too). She had to use traps to take all of them to get shots/spayed/neutered. Some never came back after the traumatic experience of going to the vet.

Agreed. You need a trap.

He seems too young to be a feral cat. I think he was most likely abandoned. I’m in Japan, ferral cats are in the mountains here, not by the city hall of a 300.000 inhabitants city :)

This worked for me. My wife and I had a few feral cats living behind our garage in the woods and they had kittens. We were able to capture two of the kittens when they were about 8 weeks old or so and after a few days of petting them while they cowered in fear they became normalized and are now perfect house cats. That was a year ago and since then we have had a baby and they haven’t caused any problems. They love our dog, our other very grumpy cat, and will let our baby pull on their tails and pull their hair out with no problems.

String or something you can pull along the grass to get him to chase. No kitten can resist it. You just have to lure him in close enough to grab. I have caught a few “wild” kittens this way.

If you want to catch him you'll need a trap and some good food. Cats revert or start out wild pretty easily so just trying to lure him in with food won't be easy and will likely take a long time.

Well in that case, it probably is abandoned. If it’s like China, there’s no wildlife besides birds (because people have caught and eaten them all by now). You don’t see squirrels, rabbits, snakes, etc in China unless you go wayyyy outside a city. Most bodies of water don’t even have fish (unless it’s a fish farm).
